Do I need a Rewire?
When considering whether to rewire your property, several factors come into play. Insufficient sockets, poor lighting, and an aging installation may warrant a complete rewire. However, if only minor adjustments are needed and your system is in otherwise in good condition, a Consumer Unit upgrade alongside minor circuit alterations might suffice. For clarity and safety, an Electrical Installation Condition Report can provide valuable insights. For more information, feel to contact Watts Electrical - we’re here to assist you!
Modern Consumer Units
Modern Consumer Units carry many features that their older counter parts didn't have. Like their predecessors they have fault protection to protect the cables from over current and short circuits, but this is where the similarities end. We now have Surge Protection (SPD's), Residual Current Devices (RCD's) and in certain circumstances the addition of Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDD's), each device bringing valuable safety features to our electrical installations. In addition to these devices, metal Consumer Units are now standard, bringing another level of safety, mitigating the fire risk present in older, poorly maintained plastic Consumer Units.
